Welcome to Protect The Rainforest

We believe that each of us has a responsibility to protect and preserve our world's natural resources and beauty in an effort to ensure our prosperity into the future. Rainforests provide us with the basic essentials needed for life and survival on this planet. The Amazon Rainforest, rightfully characterized as the “Lungs of Our Planet,” produces more than 20% of our world’s oxygen. The abundant resources found in the rainforest are an enormous benefit to the survival and well-being of humankind. Although rainforests only cover 6% of our Earth’s surface, they are home to more than half of all species on the planet. They are universal providers and vital to life on this planet.

However, deforestation and forest degradation threaten these providers. The world’s rainforests are being devastated at an alarming rate. 80,000 acres of rainforest are destroyed daily as land is harvested for its valuable hardwood trees or cleared to make way for cattle ranching, farmland, or urban development. Scientists estimate that 1/6 of the Amazon Rainforest has already been wiped out. We have the ability to destroy these magnificent and vital habitats, however, we also have the power and responsibility to protect and preserve them. ProtectTheRainforest.org is dedicated to providing you with logical ways in which you can contribute to saving our rainforests.

We believe that by working together we can collectively reverse this process. The goal of this site is threefold:

1. To excite people about preserving and protecting our rainforests through awareness, education, and creative thinking.

2. To arm people with the tools they need to properly contribute, create or invest in reforestation programs as well as other planet friendly ventures.

3. To raise money through donations, fundraising, and ProtectTheRainforest.org product sales to support other organizations that work to ensure protection for these forests.

Thank you for visiting ProtectTheRainforest.org. The site, as you are viewing it now, is the first step on the journey to achieving these goals. We are currently under construction but please check back regularly to see our progress. A full launch is expected in May 2009
